What are the disadvantages of rotary turnstiles?

Dec 16, 2024

1, The traffic speed is relatively slow
A significant drawback of turnstiles is their relatively slow travel speed. Due to its design principles and structural characteristics, only one or a few people are allowed to pass through each time, and when personnel pass through, the gate needs to perform a series of complex mechanical actions, including rotation, positioning, unlocking, etc., all of which require a certain amount of time to complete. Therefore, in crowded places such as subway stations or train stations during rush hour, turnstiles may become a bottleneck for traffic, leading to congestion and queuing.
2, Channel width limited
Another disadvantage of rotary turnstiles is limited channel width. In order to ensure the stability and safety of the gate, its channel width is usually designed to be relatively narrow, generally between 500mm and 600mm. Although this design helps prevent illegal intrusion and tailgating behavior, it may pose a barrier to passage for individuals carrying large luggage or assistive devices such as wheelchairs. They may need to spend more time and effort to pass through the gate, and in some cases may not be able to pass smoothly.
3, The plasticity of the appearance is not strong
The appearance design of turnstiles is usually relatively simple and lacks flexibility. Although there are some different styles and colors of turnstiles on the market, overall, their appearance is relatively fixed and difficult to customize according to the specific environment and style of the place. This to some extent limits the role of turnstiles in beautifying the environment and enhancing the image of the place.
4, Noise issue
Some rotary turnstiles may produce certain noise during operation. This is mainly due to the friction or collision between the mechanical components of the gate during movement. Although this type of noise usually does not pose a direct threat to human health, it may become a disruptive factor in some places that require a quiet environment, such as libraries, hospitals, etc., affecting people's normal work and life.
5, Insufficient adaptability to special populations
Rotary turnstiles are often designed and used without fully considering the needs of special populations. For example, for elderly people, disabled people, or parents with children who have limited mobility, turnstiles may pose certain difficulties in passing. They may need additional help or auxiliary equipment to pass through the gate smoothly, which undoubtedly increases their travel inconvenience.
6, High cost
The cost of rotary turnstiles is relatively high, which is also a disadvantage that cannot be ignored. This is mainly due to the use of advanced mechanical, electronic, and communication technologies, as well as high-quality materials and manufacturing processes in rotary turnstiles. Therefore, when purchasing and installing turnstiles, users need to invest a significant amount of funds. In addition, the maintenance and upkeep of rotary turnstiles also require certain expenses, including regular inspections, cleaning, repairs, and replacement of parts.
7, Limited adaptability to the environment
Although turnstiles have certain waterproof and dustproof capabilities, their adaptability to the environment is still limited. Under extreme weather conditions, such as rainstorm and strong wind, the normal operation of the rotary gate may be affected. In addition, rotary turnstiles are not suitable for installation in environments that are too humid or highly corrosive, as this may accelerate their aging and damage.
